Belgium - July 2005
April: Belgium was a pleasant surprise, with its rich and diverse culture, fantastic architecture, great food, and cheep beer. We stayed at a B&B in Ghent, where we enjoyed a spacious room, and wonderful hospitality. There was a River Blues festival in town, so we enjoyed the sounds of bagpipes, jazz and blues. We toured a very old "authentic" castle, which was complete with turrets, a dungeon, arrow slits, and a detailed torture devise museum. We also went on a boat ride through the canal, where we learned that most Belgians speak at least 3 languages…Dutch, German, English, and French are among the mix. After we left Ghent, we spent a couple of days in Spa, where we hiked, swam in mineral pools, and enjoyed the quiet town.
