English Road Trip - October 2005

April: We spent our last weekend in England, touring the countryside. We began our adventure in Oxford, where we took a walking tour of the campus and town, visited a great museum, and absorbed the atmosphere. We were able to see where Bill Clinton spent most of his time while in school here, as well as check out the locations that were featured in the Harry Potter films. The town was fun and had a lot to offer in terms of history, architecture, and culture.

We then ventured on to Cheddar, England, where we stayed in an awesome bed and breakfast. Considering the fact that we followed signs through cow pastures for 2 miles and were well off the beaten path, we had no idea what to expect of our accommodations. While in Cheddar (they say this is where cheddar cheese was invented), we went for a hike in the Cheddar Gorge, and walked around town. We bought some wonderful flavored cheddar cheese, and had tea before heading out to our next destination.

We drove south to a small coastal town called Hope Cove, where we stayed at a nice hotel that looked out onto the ocean. We ate at the hotel that night, and had one of the very few "good" meals in England. The next morning we walked along the beach, soaking up the warm sun, and then toured the town for a bit. Hope Cove is very small and basically consisted of a post office, restaurant, and hotel. It was a peaceful getaway from the craziness of London!

I have no explanation for this....
