Germany - August 2005

April: The first time we were in Germany was brief, so we were excited to come back through. We stayed in Berlin for a few days, where we took in the sites, absorbed the diverse culture, and admired the modern architecture. We toured Checkpoint Charlie, The Berlin Wall (what remains of it), the Jewish Holocaust Museum, and Technical Museum. We also visited the Sachsenhasen Concentration Camp Memorial, which is a short train ride outside of Berlin. This particular camp had opened in 1936 by the Nazis, and claimed the lives of 100,000 people before it was shut down. It was sad and very difficult to take in. We finished up our site seeing by going to the new Holocaust Memorial in Berlin.
